Special Races |
|
A number of Special Races are run through the season. They are: The Club Races are generally held on long weekends or days that may cause hardship for regular sailors to participate in the normal series racing (the last Saturday in September is an example). Club races are always based on Performance Handicap so that every sailor no matter what their experience or ability has a good chance of winning. Prizes are often presented on the day. Racing can be around different courses according to handicap or it might be that no sailor is allowed to sail the class they would normally compete in. The Commodore's Cup and Parks Victoria Trophy are stand alone trophy races. Both are Performance Handicap races so that each sailor's elapsed time is corrected according to their recent performance. Sailors who have a particularly good day relative to their normal performance have the best chance of winning. The Stern Chaser is stand alone trophy race. Boats start from the beach according to their Performance Handicap. Slower boats first. The race is for a set time, generally 2 Hours. At 2 hours, the leading boat wins. The Marathon is stand alone trophy race that lasts all day. Boats sail around the perimeter of the lake until the time is up. The boat that has averaged the fastest laps on class yardstick corrected time wins. |
