- Know the course.
- Practice boat handling skills.
- Never let go of the tiller.
- Always be conscious of wind direction.
- Balance your boat, forward and aft, port and starboard - flat is fast.
- Upwind, never sail beyond the laylines.
- Before the start, stay close to the line.
- In very light air, sail close to the shores.
- In light air, look for wind channels indicated by dark patches on the water.
- Upwind, in heavy air, centre your sail/s, get over the side and work.
