Sail Training

Sail training can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities and can help improve your sailing skills for club races or just sailing for relaxation and enjoyment. A comprehensive sail training programme is offered free to members. The training programme covers the following topics:
  • Rigging and de-rigging dinghys
  • Physics of sailing
  • Safety
  • Rules of sailing
  • Righting a capsized yacht
  • Improving sail performance

Plenty of time is given after each theory session to apply some of the techniques discussed under fully supervised conditions in the training bay. Personal, practical feedback and learn while actually skippering or crewing in one of the club boats.

Next Training Courses
Training is generally scheduled for November and possibily in February depending on numbers. Check the Events page. Training can also be arranged at other times for individuals.

The Squad
Sugarloaf Saling Club also runs a squad for young sailors from 10 to 18 years of age durng the warmer months. This is a great way to get into sailing.
